Upspan / Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Effective date: 6 October 2026 · Applies to the Upspan app for iPhone and Apple Watch, previously published as +1UP
The short version: Upspan has no account, no sign-up and no Cookisoft server. It reads only the Apple Health data you explicitly authorize, keeps your data on your devices and, if you use iCloud, syncs through your own private iCloud account. We never see, sell or share your health data.
1 · Who we are
Upspan is developed and published by Cookisoft (Soft Cookie Developers), a software studio based in Lebanon ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains how Upspan handles information. You can reach us any time at hello@cookisoft.dev.
2 · Our core principle
Upspan is private by design. We built it without a backend: there is no account to create, and we operate no server that receives your health information. Your data stays under your control, on your Apple devices and in your own iCloud.
3 · Data Upspan uses
Apple Health (HealthKit) data
With your permission, Upspan reads health and activity data from Apple Health to calculate your medals, XP and levels and to show your insights. Depending on what you authorize, this can include: steps, active and resting energy, exercise and stand time, workouts, heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV), sleep, mindful minutes, water, body weight and body composition (such as BMI, body fat and lean mass), and characteristics such as date of birth and biological sex used for health calculations.
- You choose which categories to share, and you can change or revoke them at any time in iOS Settings, Health, Data Access & Devices, Upspan.
- Upspan reads this data on your devices to power the app's features. It is not transmitted to us or to any third party.
- Upspan keeps no separate copy of your raw Health records. It works from Apple Health and stores only the app's own data, described below.
Data Upspan writes to Apple Health
When you log water, or complete a guided breathing session, Upspan writes that entry to Apple Health as a water or mindful-minutes sample, only if you have allowed it to. These entries count toward your progress like any other Health sample.
App settings, progress and check-ins
Upspan stores its own app data on your device: your goals, notification preferences, earned medals, XP history, and any stress or mood check-ins you choose to record. If iCloud is available, this app data is mirrored through your private iCloud (see below).
Notifications
Reminders, medal alerts and stress alerts are scheduled and delivered on your device. They are not sent from a Cookisoft server, and you can turn each kind off in the app's Settings or in iOS Settings.
4 · iCloud sync
If you are signed in to iCloud, Upspan syncs your app data (such as medals, XP, settings and check-ins) across your iPhone and Apple Watch using Apple's CloudKit in your own private iCloud database. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to it. If iCloud is unavailable, Upspan stores your data only on the device.
5 · Apple services we integrate
- Game Center: if you choose to use leaderboards and achievements, your participation is handled by Apple's Game Center using your Apple ID. Your standing is managed by Apple under their privacy terms; we do not run our own leaderboard server.
- SharePlay: Breathe Together uses Apple's SharePlay over a FaceTime call you start. Upspan shares only the timing needed to keep the breathing session in sync, not your health data.
- Photos: when you save your progress card, Upspan adds an image to your photo library only after you grant add-only permission. The card shows the stats you choose to share, such as your level, rank, XP and medals.
6 · What we don't do
- We do not require an account or collect your name, email or password through the app.
- We do not sell, rent or trade your data to anyone.
- We do not use advertising or third-party tracking in the app.
- We do not run analytics that send your health data to us.
- We do not receive your Apple Health data on any Cookisoft server, because there is no such server.
7 · Purchases
Upspan is free to download. The free trial and the optional one-time unlock are in-app purchases made through the Apple App Store. Payment, billing and any refunds are handled entirely by Apple, and we never see your payment details. Upspan checks your purchase status with Apple on your device to decide which features are available. Apple's handling of purchase data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.
8 · Diagnostics you choose to share
If you opt in through iOS, Apple may share aggregated, anonymized crash and usage diagnostics with developers through App Analytics and crash reports. This is controlled by your device settings (Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements) and contains no identifiable health data. You can turn it off at any time.
9 · Children
Upspan is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app has no account and no server, no personal data is gathered by us regardless of age.
10 · Your controls and rights
- Health permissions: change or revoke any category in iOS Settings, Health, Data Access & Devices, Upspan.
- Delete app data: deleting Upspan removes its on-device data. To remove iCloud-synced app data, manage it in your iCloud settings. Health entries, including water and mindful minutes that Upspan wrote, are deleted in the Apple Health app.
- Requests: because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export or erase on our side, but you are welcome to contact us with any privacy question.
11 · Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will change the effective date above and post the new version at this address. Material changes will be reflected in an app update where appropriate.
